If you’re wondering “Does my pet need an emergency vet?”, you’re not alone. It can be difficult to know whether your dog or cat needs immediate veterinary attention or if their condition can safely wait until your regular veterinary practice reopens.
Our out-of-hours emergency vet provides emergency veterinary care for dogs, cats and small pets when your daytime vet is closed. If you’re worried about your pet, it’s always best to call our experienced emergency veterinary team for advice.
Contact an emergency vet immediately if your pet has any of the following symptoms:
- Difficulty breathing or choking
- Collapse, unconsciousness or severe weakness
- Seizures or repeated fits
- Suspected poisoning or eaten something toxic
- Been hit by a vehicle or suffered a serious accident
- Severe bleeding that won’t stop
- Deep wounds, bite injuries or major trauma
- A swollen abdomen or signs of bloat
- Difficulty giving birth or prolonged labour
- Eye injuries or sudden loss of vision
- Inability to urinate, particularly in male cats
- Persistent vomiting or diarrhoea, especially with lethargy
- Heatstroke
- Severe allergic reactions or facial swelling
- Extreme pain or distress
These conditions require urgent assessment by an emergency veterinary surgeon and should not be delayed.
