Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to call before coming to EVT?
Yes. Please call EVT before travelling to us. Our team will ask you a few questions about your pet and their condition and advise you on the most appropriate next steps.
Can I stay with my pet during their assessment?
Where possible, we want you to stay with your pet. However, there may be times when our team needs to take your pet through for assessment or treatment. We will keep you informed and explain what is happening.
How long will I have to wait?
Every patient is assessed according to their clinical urgency. This means that the most seriously unwell or injured patients will be seen first, so waiting times can vary. We appreciate your patience and will keep you updated where possible.
Can I visit my pet if they stay overnight?
Yes, we understand how important it is to see your pet. Visiting arrangements will depend on your pet’s condition and the care they require. Our team will discuss this with you when your pet is admitted.
How will I receive updates?
Our team will keep you informed about your pet’s progress and any significant changes to their treatment. We will discuss how and when you can expect updates when your pet is admitted.
What happens if my pet needs further treatment?
If your pet needs ongoing treatment, we will discuss the options with you and explain the recommended next steps. This may include staying with EVT, returning to your usual vet or being transferred for further specialist care, depending on your pet’s needs.
Before you call
To help us assess your pet as quickly as possible, please have the following information ready:
- The name of your primary care practice, and their phone number in case the call is disconnected
- Your pet’s species, breed, age and approximate weight
- A description of their symptoms, including when they started and whether they are getting worse
- Any medications your pet is currently taking or any existing medical conditions
- Details of any possible poisoning, foreign body ingestion, recent injury or accident
- Whether your pet is eating, drinking, urinating and passing faeces normally
Why This Information Matters
The more information you can provide, the quicker our emergency veterinary team can assess your pet’s condition and determine the most appropriate treatment. This also helps us prepare for your arrival if your pet needs immediate emergency care.
